From the designer-created Barbie outfits to the knock-out make-up, the best hairdressers in Brisbane at Rokstar have been pouring over every red carpet look. We are ready for Barbie-core in a big way!
One of our favourite looks? The Los Angeles world premiere where Margot wore a Schiaparelli haute couture gown modelled after the ‘Solo in the Spotlight’ Barbie from the 1960s. Perfection! But the best part – the hair of course. It is a high-glamour doll-like style reminiscent of the volume and structure of the time.
Here we run down how to achieve the look, something we can whip up for you in the salon!
To create the look, wash and prep hair with Kerastase Chroma Absolu shampoo and conditioner before towel drying.
Add a volumizing product like TECHNI.ART Full Volume Extra Mousse from the roots to cut down on blow-dry time, before adding heat protectant and blow drying for big volume.
Once hair is dry, go in with Velcro rollers and set the hair in large sections. Once hair has cooled, pull it up in a ponytail, leaving 2 inches of hair down at her hairline.
Set the ponytail in 2-inch curls, along with the section of hair at the hairline that was left out. Once set, gently brush them out and work the bangs and ponytail into the‘60s-esque shape.
This ponytail gives the look of ease and effortlessness, but it is actually more complicated than it looks so if you can’t achieve it at home, time to give us a call and watch us work our magic!

Our doors remain open so no need to touch handles.
Disposable cups instead of our beautiful ones.
Perspex barriers at the front desk and at our basins for your comfort
Sanitiser at every station for clients and team to use.
All stations are disinfected after every client’s visit.
No hugging, handshakes and physical contact.
All capes and basin towels are single-use.
We have removed our magazines and salon treats; please bring your own reading material.
As we are practising social distancing we ask that you don’t bring any extra guests with you. This helps us ensure our numbers and WHS.
All of our team has completed the Government Infectious Control training. Rokstar has the right to ask unwell clients to leave if they are displaying flu-like symptoms.
